Gilmore Girls is one of my favourite tv series, and even writing about it brings up emotions; maybe because watching it became something special I shared with my daughter.
We both felt a connection with the characters. Like Lorelai, I became a single mother when my daughter was just a year old, and like Rory, she grew up with an unconventional mother.
We had our routines, just like Lorelai and Rory, and genuinely loved spending time together. I didn’t cook much either, so we mostly survived on takeout. One time, I made white rice with grated cheese, and my daughter exclaimed, “This is the most delicious meal I’ve ever had!” It was one of those small, sweet moments that became a memory.
Like Rory, my daughter has always been responsible, an outstanding student, and now, an excellent professional. In many ways, I think she’s outgrown Rory in that sense.
